Hydropower

The Sinop Hydroelectric Plant, located in the municipality of Sinop (MT), is the first hydropower project of the EDF Group in Brazil. Its operation began in 2019, resulting from a partnership between EDF Power Solutions Brazil (51%), Chesf (24.5%), and Eletronorte (24.5%). With an installed capacity of 401.88 MW, the plant generates approximately 50% of the energy consumed in the state, equivalent to supplying 1.5 million people.

EDF Serviços, a branch of EDF power solutions, has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of UHE Sinop since the start of its commercial operation. Currently, the plant is operated remotely by the team at the Control Room of UTE Norte Fluminense, located 2,500 km away. Sinop Energia also demonstrates concern for the environment by implementing intensive water quality monitoring systems for the Teles Pires River, a tributary of the Tapajós River that flows into the Amazon River. Measuring water quality is essential for the UHE Sinop’s operations, aiming to assess real-time conditions in the region and reduce potential environmental impacts.
