Environmental Education and Awareness

The company establishes partnerships with local organizations and develops projects aimed at encouraging environmentally friendly practices and conserving the biodiversity of the areas where it operates. Discover some of our initiatives.

The Climate Fresk is a global initiative that seeks to disseminate knowledge about the complex relationship of factors that contribute to the climate crisis.

Since 2022, we have promoted Climate Fresk sessions for all its employees, keeping them engaged in topics involving climate change and its impacts, stimulating the training of new multipliers and sustaining the values and purpose of the EDF Group. EDF Renewables was the first company in Brazil to promote the initiative to its employees.

Since 2009, EDF power solutions has partnered with the Golden Lion Tamarin Association (AMLD), which promotes the conservation of the Atlantic Forest in the coastal lowlands of Rio de Janeiro and its native fauna, particularly the golden lion tamarin. This partnership has resulted in the recovery of kilometers of forests, contributed to the preservation of the species, and stimulated the socioeconomic development of small farmers in the region.

Carried out in the localities of Caraíbas, Poços, Tiquara, Belas, Campo Frio, Pouso Alegre and Caatinguinha, in Bahia, the project seeks to bring more information about sustainability, conscious consumption, reuse of solid waste, irrigation and proper management of seedlings and sowing, as well as training in composting, which would contribute to increasing local income and environmental conservation. The initiative was present in 14 schools and it is estimated that it has impacted 500 people, making it possible to train multiplying agents of the principles that govern sustainability and environmental conservation.

Caruara

We are partners with the Caruara Private Natural Heritage Reserve, a conservation unit voluntarily created in 2012 by the Açu Port (RJ). The reserve, covering 40 km² of protected area, aims to preserve and restore the biodiversity of the largest remaining fragment of restinga in private land in Brazil, located at Fazenda Palacete in São João da Barra (RJ). This is achieved through actions that generate scientific knowledge, education, and environmental, social, and economic benefits. The Caruara Reserve also seeks to enhance ecosystem services in the region.

Rural Vocational Training Courses

In partnership with the National Rural Learning Service, we promoted four rural professional training courses for 66 residents of the localities of Sítio Boqueirão do Exú, Comunidade Fazenda Malhada do Umbuzeiro, Sítio Tanque do Joaquim and Sítio Ramadinha, in Junco do Seridó, Paraíba.

The training involved topics such as Forage Conservation by the Silage Method, Construction of Underground Dam, Organic Agriculture and Organic Production of Vegetables – Roots, Tubers and Rhizomes.

We held three editions of the workshops “Training in Pest Management in Conventional Agriculture and Production of Fruit Tree Species of Local Economic Importance”. Carried out in partnership with the Paraíba Company for Research, Rural Extension and Land Regularization, the action impacted more than 50 rural producers in the communities of Serra de Santana, Samambaia, Cajazeiras, Exú, Malhada do Umbuzeiro, Bom Jesus and Noruega.

During the initiative, farmers learned about the recovery of degraded areas, the importance of family farming, the relevance of umbu and cashew cultivation for the local economy, among others.

In the town of Barra, in Santa Luzia, Paraíba, we have developed a Cooperative Orientation Program (POC), in order to support the formation of the structure of a cooperative so that small goat and cattle producers in the region can offer the services and products generated in the Regional Unit for the Processing of Milk and Dairy Products. The initiative seeks to contribute to the appreciation of farmers, encourage sustainable agricultural practices, in addition to obtaining a greater competitive advantage in the market.

With the end of the development of the program, the cooperative was created and received the name of Cooperative of Rural Producers of Vale do Sabugi – COOPERBARRA.
