Understand why wind and solar projects are divided into phases
The operational phases of energy projects are determined by the energy sales agreement, whether it is an Energy Trading Agreement in the Regulated Environment via auction or a free market Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). In practical terms, the base contract is the initial milestone, which determines the feasibility of the project, and the negotiated amount is equivalent to one phase of the park.
Before this stage, at the time of project development, it is necessary to obtain requirements such as prior license, land regularization and evaluate the prospect of connection to the grid, which is part of the “ready-to-bid” status. Without reaching this status, it is not possible to start trading the asset’s energy.
In some cases, only part of the project is at this stage, which leads to the initial negotiation of a first phase, leaving the rest of the project’s installed capacity for a later time. This division is essential to ensure the viability and progressive advancement of renewable energy projects
