Wind Farm Serra do Seridó promotes sustainable agriculture project in Seridó Paraibano

Rio de Janeiro, November, 7th, 2024 – The Wind Farm Serra do Seridó promotes the Sustainable Agriculture Projects Call in the Seridó Paraibano region. The initiative aims to boost family rural production, increase income generation, strengthen the quality of life and stability of the communities in the area of influence.

The themes addressed by the call are sustainable agriculture and water management on rural properties. The process has three stages: training and proposal development, selection, and finally, implementation of the selected projects. Formal and informal groups from the municipalities of Santa Luzia, Junco do Seridó, Assunção, and Salgadinho participate in the Projects Call.

The Wind Farm Serra do Seridó represents EDF Renewables’ first project in Paraíba, and we are very proud to operate in the region. With the launch of the call, we believe it will be possible to further boost the economic and social development of the local communities, as well as raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources and practicing sustainability in daily life,” comments Alexandre Azevedo, Director of New Business at EDF Renewables.

During the call, the Wind Farm Serra do Seridó partners with Transforma.aí, a consultancy that provides support for planning, execution, and monitoring activities, assisting all participants in the different stages.

Between September and October, three training sessions were held to discuss family organic agriculture, rural production, and water management in the semi-arid region, as well as content on the development of community projects for sustainable rural production. The workshops were held in the communities of Serra de Santana, Barra, Exú, Samambaia, and Cajazeiras 3. The first round had the participation of 74 residents, while the second and third modules had, respectively, 66 and 46 participants. The workshops discussed topics such as sustainable production of organic food, encouragement of associativism and cooperativism, and the exchange of knowledge and cultures.

About the call:

Up to ten projects will be selected by the evaluation committee during the months of November and December, and the implementation and monitoring of each project will be carried out during the year 2025, with a duration of 6 to 12 months. The effectiveness of the registration in the Projects Call will be given by the submission of projects at the end of the workshop cycle, and the participation of the project in the call will depend on the presence of at least one representative of the organization/informal group in all three workshops held.
