EDF Renewables Brazil is the new member of the Brazilian Hydrogen Association
Rio de Janeiro, July 11th, 2023 – Following the global purpose of accelerating the energy transition, EDF Renewables Brazil has joined the Brazilian Hydrogen Association (ABH2). The entry reinforces the strategic role of the company and its ambitions in the development of renewable hydrogen in the country, expands its participation in the discussion on the regulatory framework in relation to the subject, as well as contributing to a more competitive environment in the market and the promotion of innovation and scientific research.
According to EDF Renewable’s Director of Emerging Business, Sylvain Jouhanneau, the partnership with ABH2 is an important step that reinforces the EDF Group’s ambitions to achieve a global installed capacity of 3 GW by 2030.
“The announcement of EDF Renewables as a new member of ABH2 was greeted with great enthusiasm. We believe that this partnership will be strategic, opening new opportunities to exchange experiences and share our know-how. Brazil has the potential to become one of the main leaders in the production and export of Renewable Hydrogen and its derivatives, and we want to be a key player in this movement,” says Jouhanneau.
Firm in the purpose of advancing a carbon-neutral energy future, EDF Renewables do Brazil stops emitting, annually, more than 1.7 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere considering all its projects in the country. With 1.8 GW in viable projects, the company considers working together with ABH2 and its associates a possibility to expand partnerships, opening new paths for the creation of differentiated solutions for its customers.
ABH2 has shown significant growth in its number of Institutional Associates in the last three years – a direct reflection of the growth of hydrogen energy in Brazil -, currently having more than 70 associated companies. For Paulo Emílio de Miranda, president of the entity, the arrival of EDF Renewables will foster new initiatives and ideas for the group. “The moment of energy transition that we live in requires expressive and rapid activities that drive it and, in this sense, hydrogen is a major protagonist. The association of EDF Renewables with ABH2 is very timely for also bringing the institution’s expertise to the group and enriching the discussions and activities carried out. Brazil is on its way to becoming a leader in the production and consumption of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, and EDF Renewables represents an important piece for this achievement”, he comments.
