Braskem and EDF Renewables sign an agreement for the use of renewable energy
São Paulo, April 14th, 2022 – Committed to sustainability goals linked to operational eco-efficiency and the fight against climate change, Braskem signed a wind energy purchase agreement with EDF Renewables do Brasil. The agreement will be an anchor to enable the construction of a new wind power plant in southwest Bahia, contributing to the installation of new sources of renewable energy in Brazil.
The new agreement will allow the petrochemical company to obtain energy for 20 years, starting in 2024. The expectation is that there will be a reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases of about 700 thousand tons of CO2 by Braskem during this period, accelerating the use of renewable energies in its energy matrix, in line with the goals of decarbonization and energy transition.
This is the fifth long-term renewable energy contract from wind and/or solar sources that Braskem has signed in 4 years and the second with EDF Renewables, reaching an average of 150 MW of energy from these sources, which represent around 30% of the portfolio of electricity purchased in Brazil and put Braskem close to reaching the estimated mark of 2.2 million tons of CO2 in emissions avoided with these contracts alone, contributing to the goal of 15% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions Scope 1 and 2 greenhouses by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
