Ventos da Bahia Wind power plant opens educational space in Bonito
Rio de Janeiro, February 22nd, 2022 – The Youth in Action educational space, launched by phases 1 and 2 of the Ventos da Bahia Wind power plant – which has EDF Renewables do Brasil as one of the controllers – was inaugurated in Cabeceira do Brejo, in municipality of Bonito. The initiative, created through the BNDES’ Social Investments for Companies (ISE) line, will benefit eight communities around the power plant, serving, in addition to Bonito, the municipality of Mulungu do Morro.
The project, developed by EDF Renewables do Brasil and executed by Marrikah Consultoria, aims to strengthen the role of young rural producers and train them for the job market. In addition to the construction and delivery of the educational space between the months of February and April, the Ventos da Bahia Wind power plant will offer free courses in reading, writing, public speaking and computing. The courses, developed especially for local residents based on a diagnosis carried out with the participants of the first two stages (systemic leadership and AgroJovem, in partnership with SENAR), will be offered to up to 40 students.
“We seek to positively impact the population where our projects are located and, for that, we have social and environmental responsibility as one of our main commitments. With the completion of this project, we effectively collaborate in the professional training of young rural producers, in addition to promoting community autonomy”, says André Salgado, CEO of EDF Renewables do Brasil and director Latam.
With 165 m2, the space has two classrooms, restrooms, pantry, warehouse, administrative office and computer equipment. In addition, the educational space of the Jovens em ação (Youth in Action) project is next to a school and can be used as a support point for classes. After the completion of the free courses offered by the Ventos da Bahia Wind power plant, the management of the space for new classes and courses will be the responsibility of the Bonito Department of Education and Culture.
